SAIF, which was previously referred to as RSIC at Panjab University Chandigarh, was established during the early years of the sixth plan. The comprehensive facilities of UCIM, CIL, SAIF operate collaboratively to support research and provide practical training to students through workshops. Additionally, the Centre is responsible for the design, fabrication, and repair of electronic instruments needed by both students and faculty from the University and surrounding colleges. It also conducts training programs aimed at enhancing technical skills for the scientific community and laboratory personnel from various institutions.
